You are not required to hire a guide but when it comes to fun, local knowledge, and the comfort of someone who really knows their way around you wont regret it! Our guides are eager to show you all of their favorite spots discovered after years of exploring our vast backcountry forest. If you are not familiar with our extensive trail system or you have never been UTVing or snowmobiling you would greatly benefit from hiring a guide for the day. All of our guides are Licensed Maine guides, certified in CPR, Wilderness First Aid and have instructed scores of happy riders before you.

Best customer service ever. We rented ATV s and kayaks. Staff was super friendly, we were bit late to return but no complaints at all. They gave us trail maps and tips as we were first timers as ATV rides. Price was same as online rentals. They also gave us extra life vests with Kayak as we had kids who took turns with us. Thank you for let us enjoy our vacation and make it memorable. Will definitely go again if we are around.

We used Northwoods Outfitters to rent ATV’s, had a great experience. Unfortunately, our ATV got stuck in the mud due to a ton of recent rain. Jason attempted to rescue us, however it was really stuck. He gave us another ATV to continue to enjoy the day. He had a great attitude, and responded quickly to us in the woods. We’ll definitely book ATV’s with them again. Added bonus: great iced coffee at the store!!

Stayed here for 3 nights during our trip of Maine and it’s my favorite place of our whole trip! The rustic barn apartment was beautiful and spacious and Pat and Mike were so friendly! Even though we only saw 1 moose on our sunrise moose spotting trip with Steve, it was not for want of trying. And the canoe trip was beautiful nonetheless. Fishing with Greg was both peaceful and exiting, as we managed to catch two lake trouts and saw a bald eagle! Greg also had some great recommendations for where to go in town, so we had fun that night as well in the Stress free moose. The highlight of our stay was the ATV drive, where we got to explore the area in yet another different way (after the hikes we already did). All in all, great place to stay with amazing activities and friendly people. I definitely want to visit again!

Day 1: booked 4 hours of atving- they’ll give you instructions for a good loop to run and LISTEN TO THEM. There were creek beds and rocky climbs and hilly forest roads and mudding- everything you want out of an atv experience, Polaris side by side was speedy and super capable, 5 stars Day 2: morning 4 hours of moose watching eight Steve the Maine guide( land tour in the car). We saw 8 moose! Beautiful views of mount khatadin! Worth it to wake up early. A delightful company to rent from, make sure you book as a package if you’re staying overnight, the moose head inn has a deal with Northwood and found the hotel to be very cosy- plus you can book everything with north wood, eliminates hassle.

Which are the best days to rent?

If you want to avoid the crowds, we recommend coming Monday through Thursday. Saturdays, holidays and school vacation week are by far the busiest days. Fridays and Sundays are the next two busiest days, with Monday through Thursday being the lesser busy days.

Are we required to join a guided tour?

All of our guides are certified in CPR, Wilderness First Aid and have instructed scores of happy riders before you.

Do we tip the guide?

The most important thing for guests to remember is that guiding is a service business, and all guides throughout the world rely on their tips as part of their earnings. That said, they must earn your tip. There have been many published guidelines on the amount to tip, e.g. 10-20% of the trip cost or more. If you are coming with a group, it is always a good idea to talk with others about how much they plan to tip, so as to avoid embarrassment. If you are staying at one of the recommended lodging choices before or after your trip, tips there are separate. If you feel as though your guide deserves a tip you will want to give that to them directly in cash.

Do your tours and rentals require reservations?

We highly recommend them! Our tours and rentals are extremely popular and as a result, we have an extremely high guest demand for them. Please call in advance for reservations. Even if you’re for a same day tour, our friendly reservations staff can accommodate your needs.

What if I have to cancel?

Your payment is fully refundable less a 20% booking fee if you cancel your reservation more than 21 days before your trip.If you cancel less than 21 days your trip is non-refundable. All rentals go rain or shine. We highly recommend purchasing trip insurance to cover your expenses and non-refundable deposits in the case that you have to cancel, or an unforeseen event such as your flights gets canceled, etc. Travel Guard seems to be a common supplier of travel insurance.

Do you require a deposit?

We require a $1500-$2000 security deposit at the time of your reservation. A signed damage waiver for an additional $20 is required and will cover any damage or loss to your rental above your security deposit.
